HESI A2 Math and Dosage Foundations

Reliable calculation comes from a consistent setup: identify what is asked, align units, calculate, round only at the end and test whether the answer is reasonable.

Use one calculation routine

Write the target unit first. Convert mixed numbers and fractions carefully, align ratios in the same order and keep units attached throughout the problem.

For conversions, write the equality you know and position it so unwanted units cancel. This routine works for household, metric and medication-style examples.

Catch errors before submitting

Estimate the range of the answer before using a calculator. If the dose available is smaller than the dose ordered, the number of tablets should usually be greater than one; that quick check exposes inverted ratios.

Practice military time and word problems separately, then combine them with arithmetic in timed sets. Review the setup—not only the final number—after every miss.
